Dr. Tarun Jayakumar completed a focused clinical fellowship at Takatsuki General Hospital under the guidance of Dr. Takafumi Hiranaka. The experience included performing and assisting TKA procedures, structured teaching and detailed case-based discussion.
The fellowship developed a deeper understanding of contemporary kinematic alignment philosophies and their application to personalised unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Particular emphasis was placed on precise planning, reproducible technique and adapting reconstruction to individual anatomy.
Beyond technical training, the fellowship reinforced the value of preparation, humility, consistency and the Japanese work ethic. These principles continue to inform Dr. Tarun’s clinical practice, academic work and international research collaborations.
